For parents and caregivers
What Type Quest saves, and where it stays
This page describes the guest version available now. Type Quest is designed so a child can start playing without an account, email address, or password.
The short version: guest progress stays in that browser on that device. Type Quest has no ads, chat, or third-party analytics.
Information saved during guest play
The game stores the following information in the browser's local storage:
- The pilot nickname entered by the player
- Game settings, scores, lesson and mission history
- Typing accuracy, speed, and skill progress by key
This guest information is not sent to Starboard or to another company. It remains on the device unless a parent chooses to download a backup file.
Limits of browser saving
Guest progress is tied to the specific browser and device used. Clearing site data, using a private browsing window, changing browsers, or changing computers can make that progress unavailable.
The Backup button creates a small JSON file containing the family's Type Quest progress. A parent can keep that file somewhere safe and use Restore inside the game if the browser copy is lost.
What the guest version does not collect
- No child email address, legal name, birth date, or home address
- No camera, microphone, or location access
- No advertising, behavioral tracking, or social sharing
- No chat, messaging, or contact with other players
Parent accounts and cloud saving are coming next
The planned account version will use one parent-managed family login with multiple child pilot profiles. Its purpose is to keep each pilot's progress safe and available on the family's other computers.
Cloud accounts are not active yet. Before they are offered, this notice will be updated to explain exactly what is stored, why it is needed, how parents control or delete it, and which service providers help operate the feature.
Questions or deletion requests
There is no cloud account or server copy to delete in the guest version. A parent can remove guest data by clearing Type Quest site data in the browser.
